Thanjavur Brihadiswara Temple : (also called Peryaudayar Kovil

Located south of Kaveri , built by Chola King Rajaraja Chola in 1010 AD : however construction : additions , Alterations , and Modifications , went on in bits and pieces for centuries : largest temple in south India , built in 44 Ha of land .

The Temple architecture is complex , Dravidian style , rock cut , Chola Temple style .The temple construction is immersed in mystery , no one including Google or Wikipedia , provide answers.

The Temple tower (Raja Gopuram ) is 216 ft tall and has a huge granite block some 80 mt and 7.7 ft wide , at the very top. No one offers any explanation on how it reached the top.

Prathishta : Lord Shiva , but the Temple has shrines for many of the Gods in the Hindu Pantheon.

The temple and also the city of Thanjavur is famous for its Art and Culture : the classical Indian Dance form “Bharatha Natyam ” originated in Thanjavur !

So also the South Indian Classical Music , popularly known as ” Carnatic Music ” : origin attributed to Music Samrat Thyagaraja !
