I first visited the ITC e-Choupal in Bhaukhedi, Sehore, in 2004, where I met Sanchalak Shri Gulab Singh.
After 32 years with NDDB, I had been working since 2000 with Grow Talent Company Limited (a precursor to the SOIL Institute of Management). My visit to Bhaukhedi was part of a small consulting project with ITC, which unfortunately turned out to be a flop.
However, life often takes unexpected turns. Shri Gulab Singh and I became good friends and have stayed in touch ever since. Over the years, even after my retirement, serious health challenges, and my move to live mostly in Canada, we continued to connect online and met in person a couple of times.
The e-Choupal has since evolved into ITCMAARS (Metamarket for Advanced Agriculture and Rural Services). Launched around 2022, ITCMAARS represents a strategic shift from a digital information-sharing platform to a full-stack, integrated “physical” ecosystem. It now functions as a comprehensive Farming as a Service (FaaS) platform designed for the next generation of digital-native farmers.
Gulab Singh serves on the board of a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) in Bhaukhedi with 1,800 farmer members. Last year, they supplied 6,500 metric tons of Sharbati Wheat produced in Sehore for ITC’s Ashirwad Atta.This FPO also worked for the purchase and sale of many other crops, seeds, fertilizers etc.
The village of Bhaukhedi itself has transformed completely for the better. Roads, electricity, houses—everything looks vastly improved compared to when I first visited.
Every year I make a bucket list of the things I want to do if the creator grants me a normal and healthy life by His grace and my karma. Meeting Gulab Singh again was one of the items on my 2025–2026 list.
I am delighted that I was able to meet him on 5 May 2026. We spent meaningful time together, listening to each other’s fascinating stories of struggle and success. It was a deeply emotional reunion, and we parted with tearful eyes, hoping to meet again soon
भाउखेडी, सीहोर के गुलाब सिंह
मैंने सबसे पहले 2004 में सिहोर जिला के भाउखेडी गांव में ITC ई-चौपाल का दौरा किया था। वहाँ मैंने तब के संचालक श्री गुलाब सिंह से मुलाकात की थी।
NDDB में 32 साल काम करने के बाद, मैं 2000 से Grow Talent Company Limited ( संप्रति SOIL Institute of Management) के साथ काम कर रहा था। भाउखेडी की मेरी यह यात्रा ITC के साथ एक छोटे परामर्श प्रोजेक्ट के लिए थी, जो दुर्भाग्य से असफल हो गया।
लेकिन जीवन अक्सर अनपेक्षित मोड़ लेता है। श्री गुलाब सिंह और मैं अच्छे दोस्त बन गए और तब से हम लगातार संपर्क में रहे। सालों बाद भी, मेरी रिटायरमेंट, गंभीर बीमारी और ज्यादातर कनाडा में रहने के बावजूद, हम ऑनलाइन बात करते रहे और कभी-कभी आमने-सामने भी मिले।
ई-चौपाल अब ITCMAARS (Metamarket for Advanced Agriculture and Rural Services) बन गया है। यह 2022 के आसपास शुरू हुआ था। ITCMAARS अब सिर्फ जानकारी देने वाला प्लेटफॉर्म नहीं रहा, बल्कि एक पूरा “भौतिक” इकोसिस्टम बन गया है। यह Farming as a Service (FaaS) का पूरा प्लेटफॉर्म है, जो अगली पीढ़ी के डिजिटल किसानों के लिए बनाया गया है।
गुलाब सिंह भाउखेडी में एक Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) के बोर्ड में हैं, जिसमें 1,800 किसान सदस्य हैं। पिछले साल उन्होंने सिहोर में उगाई गई 6,500 मीट्रिक टन शर्बती गेहूँ ITC के Ashirwad Atta के लिए सप्लाई किया। इस FPO ने और बहुत सी फ़सलों, बीज, खाद आदि की ख़रीद और बिक्री का भी काम किया।
भौखेड़ी गाँव पूरी तरह बदल गया है और बहुत बेहतर हो गया है। सड़कें, बिजली, घर — सब कुछ मेरी पिछली यात्रा की तुलना में कहीं ज्यादा अच्छा लगता है।
हर साल मैं एक बकेट लिस्ट बनाता हूँ — उन कामों की जो मैं करना चाहता हूँ, अगर ईश्वर अपनी कृपा और मेरे कर्म से मुझे सामान्य और स्वस्थ जीवन दें। गुलाब सिंह से फिर मिलना मेरी 2025-2026 की लिस्ट में एक महत्वपूर्ण काम था।
मुझे बहुत खुशी है कि मैं 5 मई 2026 को उनसे मिल पाया। हमने साथ समय बिताया, एक-दूसरे की संघर्ष और सफलता की दिलचस्प कहानियाँ सुनीं। यह मुलाकात बहुत भावुक थी। हम आँसू भरी आँखों से अलग हुए और फिर मिलने की उम्मीद के साथ विदा हुए।
